Burapha A&B Mon 11 Jan

With the tour group heading off to Lotus Valley, it was up to Tawan got everyone off to a start on the A&B courses at Burapha. Unfortunately, and as luck usually go, this had to be the day when Burapha decided to start 7 groups of Koreans right in front of our guys at 9am. As things go in Thailand, Tawan tried her best but the starter said he could do nothing as the group started late and the other 9's where also busy. And then the rains came down to make life even harder for our groups. Fortunately most people were sympathetic to Tawan as it was really out of her control and she did the best under the circumstances. Nonetheless, apologies guys, I have since taken it up with Burapha and they assured me that it wont happen again! I guess time will tell.

Considering the delay and rain stoppages, it was understandable that scoring wasn't all that good, even from the white tee's. In fourth place, winning on countback from Dennis Pelly, a warm welcome back to Tony Aslett, who scored 34 points. In 3rd spot and on his last day on tour was Matt Pallier. Matt has dramitically improved in scoring in the last two weeks, just more proof that Pattaya is indeed very good for improving a man's scoring ability! Very good to see John Fitzgerald in the prizes in 2nd place with 37 points, but as the saying goes, the good cork's always floats to the top and Geoff Stimpson captured a great start to the year with his excellent 38 points to finish first and also record a two. There was only one other two which was recorded by Peter Moon.

Green Valley 8 January

Green Valley is in pretty good shape at the moment, but playing conditions weren't very easy with a light drizzle and rain making things harder for our golfers. Thanks to Steve Mann who organized our groups whilst I was out at Khao Keow with a couple of Outbackers playing in the PSC Club Championships.

Despite the rain and damp grass, some good scores were recorded. In the B division, John Fitzgerald lost out with 34 points to clinch 3rd place to Andy Makara who beat him on countback. 1st in this division went John Lawton who scored a good 36 points.

In A division, Raivo Velsberg came in 3rd slot with 34 points, Peter Lenoury with 35 points and Kim Danboise's lessons is finally starting to pay of ith a great 38 points. I hope Kim is not peaking early and that he can continue on this great form for our Lotus Valley trip the following week!

Jay Roche [8], Martin Kingswood [16] and Raivo Velsberg each recorded a two.

In our featured picture this week, Kim Danboise, John Lawton and Martin Kingswood. Congratulations to all!!

Burapha A&B Mon 4 Jan

Playing on A&B course always presents an opportunity to tee of from the Blues. Although that makes the course long, Burapha is reasonably forgiving and with the high slope and course index ranking, all players get a couple of extra shots (high handicapers as much as 5 extra shots from the blues).

In the A Division, Steve Plant got 3rd place on countback with Bob St. Aubin beating him to 2nd place. John Cunningham played a great 37 points from his revised handicap of 10 to clinch first place. In the B division, Steven O'Sullivan scored 35 points, with Sugar Ray Handford getting 2nd place with 36 points and John O'Keefe having a blowout round with 42 points from his 22 playing handicap to win overall.

There were surprisingly many two's considering the field played off the Blues, with 2 x2's for Vince Butler [A3 and A6] and 1 each for Bob St. Auburn [A3] and Stephen O'Sullivan [A3].

Congratulations to all!

Green Valley Betterball Fri 1 Jan

With a couple of hangovers after New year's eve, we eased the comp a little bit and played a Betterball Stableford competition. This format is a pairs competition where the best net stableford score from the team is recorded per hole. As was demonstrated in the results, it's not necessarily the highest points per player that wins, but how good the team "dovetails" and helping each other out on the holes where one of the players has a booboo.

Congratulations to Phil Payne and John Stafford which, despite only scoring 29 and 27 points respectively, held things together between them to finish with a good 38 points. In second place, Raivo Velsberg and Tom Byrne both scored better individually than Phil and John, but lost on countback to a superior back nine of Phil and John.

In future, we will see how we can work in this enjoyable format in a monthly competition.
