Vietnam Tour Hoi An/Danang 21-28 Oct

Our tour group consisted of 27 persons, 19 golfers in total after we had a late dropout - and what a sociable and great bunch of people we had. Really enjoyed it with all you guys and thanks for making the trip a memorable experience.

Everything went well according to plan (apart from Day 4 sprinkles on the golf course); we had a great big bus with comfy seats (not needing to worry about the stress of Vietnam driving and roads was a big plus), hotel was genuinely top notch, visas and flight arrangements went well except for a minor delay on arrival, the courses were all 5-star. Well, not everyone agrees on which was their most and least favorite as usual but listening to everyone, on balance, Ba Na Hills was just simply the most beautiful and just as well we played it twice. It's a well designed, great layout course and in perfect condition with great services etc. (Not my personal favorite though as it punished the hell out of me! 5555). Da Nang followed in 2nd place and then the Monty course, which was the least liked and the least manicured with rather slow greens - but again, not every player had a 100% consensus which tells you that the courses had something great for everyone.

What I am pleased about is that the competition was held in good spirit, it was a fun enjoyable event (well - for the vast majority I might add!), and the winners and losers went up and down the ladder like a yo-yo, with Day 1's first and 2nd place winners (Paul and Olivier), finishing last and 2nd last on day 2 and the first day's last and 2nd last place (Stefan and Andre) finishing 1st and 2nd on Day 2 at Da Nang.

In the end, consistency paid off, with Reijo Heiskanen finishing 4th overall with 128 points. In 3rd place Jim Connoly made a surprise appearance after dreadful golf on day 1 and 2, but finishing 2nd on day 3 with 40 points and then topping that with a win on day 4 with 39 points, from a much reduced handicap playing from the forward tee's I might add! Keith Etherington played solid golf all week but lost the plot (so to speak) on the 4th day to finish with 137 overall in 2nd place. Lynn Panngam, who played magnificent golf all week and she shot her best score EVER (80 gross) on day 3 at Monty which was simply spectacular to see. Everyone was happy to see her hang on to her lead on day 4, and she beat the field by 11 shots overall. Well done and congratulations Lynn!
