Monthly Medal Green Valley Fri 19 May

Green Valley had a competition starting midday and apparently is closed for the next two Fridays, after heavy negotiations it was agreed that the Outback could have a shotgun start at 8am, this in itself limited the field to 20 players.

All but 1 straggler arrived in a timely fashion to make their way  to their allocated tees, all got around in a timely fashion and did not interfere with the Green Valley comp.

There were three 2,s - Messrs:  John Stafford, Peter Nixon and Bob Mattes.

There were only 2 Places because of the small field.

In second place was the Sugarman, Sugar Ray Handford with a very commendable net 67,his first game back after a short jaunt with his boys to his beloved homeland.

The top Prize with a magnificent net 64 went to Sunanta Cotterill (Eng), Eng also had the lowest gross score of 85, so she scopps both top prizes in our monthly event! With Sunanta's win, this is now also the first lady that qualifies for the September final and the chance to win our Season top prize of a golf tour to Hua Hin in March next year.

Thank you to Green Valley for accommodating the Outback on the day advertised.

Greenwood Wed 17 May

13 brave soldiers punched their way up the 331 in appalling weather, this in the hope that the skys cleared before tee off, which they did, for 3 holes, then it cleared, for another 3 holes, all in all there were 3 rain delays of about 15 minutes each.  The last 3 to 6 holes were played in heavy rain, the fairways were saturated which often meant playing these holes from where the ball lied.

Remarkably the greens had no casual water and putted true, all in all the round took 6 hours and we were the only players on the course.

The caddies must be applauded for trying to keep us and our equipment dry to the detriment of themselves.

There is not a handicap system which takes into account these playing conditions, which makes the winners score more remarkable.

Congrats to  John (Kenny) Hoddy  40 points in first place.

Second with 35 Points Roy Steinbach, who sank a 35ft putt on the last for par.

In 3rd place Thierry Themime 34 points

4th Neil Lavery 32 points

There were no 2,s today

Burapha Mon 15 May

After an overnight deluge 11 outbackers set sail for Burapha with no great expectation of playing golf. All were pleasantly surprised the conditions were cloudy but the course was dry, another local bar went to phoenix and promptly came home due to the saturated course.

11 golfers resulted in 1 flight, the winner being Bob Lindborg with 41 points no doubt basking in the glory of his football team winning the championship the previous weekend.

2nd place went to Kim Damboise with a very creditable 39 points, his first game for 2 weeks since recovering from a stiff neck.
