Silky Oaks Fri 2 June

Again due to yet another comp at Green Valley the Outbackers were pushed side ways onto Silky Oaks. The reports received were very complimentary towards the course and its condition, a total of 20 players set to making it a nice even 4 ball day. There were 6x2s which resulted in adjusting the day to 1 flight paying 5 places.

The skillfull recipients of the 2,s were: Bruce Mcadam, Barry Fisher, David Davies, Michael Elhert x 2 and Charlie Heneghan.

As to the comp itself there were 4 players sharing 37points broken down on Countback in the following order.

5th place Mr Wayne Cotterell, 4th place Neil Fidele, 3rd place Ian Perry, 2nd place Kim Danboise.  I am sure there were a few “if only's” from these guys.  King of the jungle the lad from the valleys Mr Charlie Heneghan with a magnificent 41 points, who informs me had a girlfriend from the town in Wales named LLANFAIRPWLLGWYNGYLLGOGERCHWYRNDROBWILLLANTYSILIOGOGOGOCH

Bet he never sent her any Valentine day cards!!!!!

Well done Boyo.

Twenty eight players entered in a 7 x 4 ball comp to celebrate the Badgers birthday at a course which has largely gone off the radar as far as the Outback is concerned.

The chosen format was a Waltz, team captains were assigned, given a briefing sheet so they could explain to there teams the rules, which most of them grasped straight away, unfortunately the odd one or two simpletons had to have a further briefing. The captains did a splendid job and the score cards were clear and precise which made them easy to evaluate. The captains collected 1000 baht per team which was placed behind the bar for the evenings celebrations. Many thanks to team captains Paul Hack, Micky Beresford, Micky leighton, Bob St Aubin, Charlie Heneghan, Neil Lavery and John Hoddy who made my day nice and enjoyable. John Hoddy's team entered into the spirit  of the day by dressing as predators and not surprisingly came last.  A slight detour was arranged on the way home taking in the local scenery and beauty spots which was truly appreciated by the first time visitors to this part of Thailand. Surprisingly, everone with wheels also ended up getting the odd puncture (or 2) and it wasn't until dark before everyone staggered back. Because of the unusual format of this competition no one really knew what a winning score would be, however the winning score of 87 points seemed very commendable.

This was achieved By Captain Bob st Aubin and his team Dennis Persson , Simon Wilcock and Mike Elhert.

2nd Place with 84 points was Micky Beresford team, Eddie Bielby, Tony Oakes and the Sugarman.

3rd place was unfortunately tied on 82 points, the 3rd prizes was given to the guys who were in attendance at the presentation, Charlie Heneghan, Neil Lavery, Neil Fidele and Jason Richards.

Thanks to all for making this a memorable Birthday, and hopefully we will all be here next year for a repeat performance!

St. Andrews Fri 26 May

A personal thank you to Eng and Cottee who for the second time in a short period kindly agreed to split from there prearranged 4 ball, this to accommodate those who could not find the time to  use a phone to book themselves into the comp. For future reference if you are unable to contact Andre SMS me on 085 282 7177 and I will add your name to the list.

Unfortunately due to my incompetence at not setting the start sheet properly the result and scores were slightly different to those announced at the presentation, sorry Charlie you did not come third.

A division remained the same - Sel Wegner winning with a fine 37 points

Sharing second was Kim Danboise and Colin Goon With 35 points, both having 18 on the back, Kim with the better last 6 holes claiming second place.

The winner of B division was Mr Bob Mattes with 40 points not 38 which I announced well done Bob.

Second in fact was Per Loevgren, me being initially confused with someone with a similar name who plays off of 5. Per scored 38.

This error pushed Steve Watkins back to 3rd with 37, sorry Steve.

However , I did manage to get the 2,s right congrats to Kim Danboise and Per Loevgren

Vouchers are at the bar for Kim and Per

My apologies  guys I will endeavor to do better in the future, it was my first attempt at setting up a start sheet and I failed miserably.

FOOTNOTE by ANDRE: Steve you handled it well pal, hopefully the ferry is on time next time so I dont drop you so badly in the dwang!

Khao Keow Wed 24 May

Another rain interrupted round of golf, speaking to the caddies they informed us that the previous day they had no rain, yet the match play fixture between the Outback and the Players Lounge was completely washed out this was held at Pattana  a  maximum of 10k,s away!

The course was not at its best but still remains a severe challenge to a Handicap golfer, the scores reflecting this.

Top of the tree for the second week running was John Hoddy 35 points, in second place Neil Lavery with 31 points.

Shot of the day went to Mr Charlie Bryan, the best ever shot hes played in his short career, an iron onto the island green which left the ball nestling next to the pin. Tap in Birdie which led to high fives and fist pumps from his playing partners.

This was the only 2 so Charlie picked up the pot, and duly spent the lot plus more re-living his glory moment.
